Cycle September is an invitation for riders all over Northwest Arkansas to take part in Love to Ride’s global bike challenge. Not into challenges or free prizes? No worries, this bike-friendly post is peddling more than the month of September.

Cycle September

During May, Northwest Arkansas saw 1,355 riders, 129 new riders, and 67 organizations participate in National Bike Month. If you’re new to the National Bike Challenge, you just need to join the Love to Ride platform. The platform allows you to track your miles online by downloading the app or syncing with your Strava or Map My Ride account.

BikeNWA will be offering some sweet prizes throughout the month from partners like Wahoo, Burley, Phat Tire, and more. Challenges range from logging at least one ride to riding for transportation to riding five times in a week.

In it, you’ll discover quick links to the Back 40, Blowing Springs Park, and Little Sugar trail systems, plus learn about new spots to visit on the Bella Vista trails including Bella Insta, Blowing Springs Gear Garden, and Clank.

Bonus: The City of Bella Vista announced the official opening of the Blowing Springs Greenway, a three-mile paved trail connecting Metfield Park in Bella Vista to the current northern terminus of the Razorback Regional Greenway at Blowing Springs Park. This stretch of trail creates a continuous paved trail connection from Metfield south to Fayetteville — a total of 46 miles one way.

The organization is looking for a full-time Project Designer with experience in Landscape Architecture/Design and GIS to support the planning and development of soft-surface (MTB), shared-use paved trails, and on-street bicycle infrastructure projects, maintenance of soft-surface trails systems, and special outdoor recreation projects.

They are also hiring part-time/seasonal Slow Streets Crew Leaders ($20/hr) and Crew ($17.50/hr). The purpose of the Slow Streets program is to calm traffic on neighborhood streets and to create safer places for people to walk, bike, and explore their cities for recreation and transportation. On these streets, residents can exercise, make trips to local businesses, and explore the community.

Hellion Bikes, a small-batch American-made bike brand, relocated their HQ from Seattle to Bentonville, Arkansas. The new location is currently undisclosed as the business puts the final touches on its production and retail sales location, which will also include a restaurant and bar. In the meantime, you can find the brand at Mojo Cycling in Bentonville. Learn more about the bike builders below.

Getting pumped!

ICYMI

  1. The Centennial Park Pavilion is now under construction. Designed by Modus Studio, it will serve as a central gathering point in the newly created cycling-activated park with state-of-the-art cyclo-cross and mountain biking facilities. The park will host the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup on October 13, 2021, and the prestigious 2022 Cyclo-Cross World Championships on January 28-30, 2022.
  2. The 2021 USA Pump Track Championships Final will take place at the Velosolutions Pump Track in Springdale on September 4! The winner of the 17+ class men and women will win an expenses-paid trip to the Red Bull UCI Pump Track World Championships in Lisbon, Portugal on October 15-17 to represent the US.
  3. In Northwest Arkansas, you can now go to college for bikes. The Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville officially launched the first-ever Bicycle Repair Technician Program.
