A film starring actors Bella Thorne, Cam Gigandet, and Jack Kilmer has been in production in and around Fayetteville this summer.

The film, called “The Tower” is about “a mysterious mermaid trapped and forgotten for years in the water tower of a small Southern town,” according to an article in Deadline this week.

The film, created by Adam Sigal, is one of just 102 independent films currently in production in the country that has received approval for filming via a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement since the actors strike took effect earlier this month, according to Deadline.

Sigal is an industry vet whose fourth film as a writer and director – “Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose” – is due out later this year starring Simon Pegg, Minnie Driver, Christopher Lloyd, Ruth Connell, Neil Gaiman, and others.

The Flyer received a tip recently that the actors were spotted filming at Worlds Under Water, a tropical fish store located in Johnson, and Stigal has been posting on Instagram from NWA for several weeks now.

According to his Instagram, the film hosted a wrap party to celebrate the end of shooting over the weekend.

Thorne broke out with her roll as Cece Jones on the Disney Channel show, Shake It Up in the early 2010s. Since then, she has appeared in a host of television and film projects, including The Duff, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, Amityville: The Awakening, The Babysitter, Assassination Nation, Midnight Sun, and others. She directed the short film, Paint Her Red that debuted at Taormina Film Festival earlier this year, and is set to start in a sci-fi film called Divinity due out soon.

Kilmer, son of legendary actor Val Kilmer, also stars in the film. Kilmer has appeared in numerous films as well, including Palo Alto, Lords of Chaos, The Pretenders, and others. He also narrated Val, the 2021 documentary about the life and career of his father.

Cam Gigandet (Twilight, Violent Night) and Chris Mullinax (The Comeback Trail, Chariot) have also been cast in the film.

According to IMDB, “The Tower” is tentatively scheduled for release in 2024.
