Do people’s locations affect their likelihood of getting promoted? People living in certain areas of the U.S. get promoted more often than others, according to a new analysis of LinkedIn data. Arkansas’s Greater Fayetteville Area sat at the top of the list with an internal promotion rate 46% higher than the national average over the past 12 months. The Austin metro area came in second, with an internal promotion rate 40% higher than the national average. The Texas hotspot has increasingly become a bastion for the tech industry, and its uptick in promotion rates reflects that shift. Austin jumped from the No. 3 spot in 2019 to the No. 2 this year. The San Francisco Bay Area rounded out the top three with an internal promotion rate that’s 37% higher than the national average.
