Fayetteville was once again recognized for its commitment to urban forest management.
The city received the 2022 Tree City USA designation, marking the 28th consecutive year that Fayetteville has been given the honor.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
Cities receive the recognition by having a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
National Arbor Day is celebrated each year on the last Friday in April. Fayetteville also celebrates Arbor Day in October with the Celebration of Trees, where urban foresters give away trees to Fayetteville residents. City officials said during the 2022 celebration, the city’s Urban Forestry department gave away more than 1,200 trees.
