The winners of the 2023 AR Future Projects awards have been announced

Grafton Architects with Modus Studio have been announced the overall winners of the AR Future Projects awards, along with RADDAR and Nomos who have been highly commended

The Anthony Timberlands Center for Design and Materials Innovation in Arkansas, designed by Grafton Architects with Modus Studio, is the overall winner of this year’s AR Future Projects awards, as well as picking up the award for Education.

Itself a lesson in timber construction, the building aims to educate new practitioners and inspire the use of wood in construction, consolidating the prominence of Arkansas in the timber industry.

The winners were selected by a panel of judges, including urbanist, entrepreneur, and director of The City, Zahira Asmal; co-founder of independent UK-based development company Arrant Land, Duncan Blackmore; and Jorge Pérez-Jaramillo, architect and urban planner, based in Medellín.

The judges described the Anthony Timberlands Center as a ‘tremendously accomplished piece of architecture, and a great building in which to learn about timber technologies’, as well as a ‘fascinating progression of Grafton’s work away from concrete’.

On 8 June, the winning and highly commended architects will present their projects at zero-carbon property event FOOTPRINT+ in Brighton. Find out more

The project is joined by two highly commended buildings: the Kaya Medical Campus in Burkina Faso by Nomos – which won the Civic and community category – and the renovation of the Pacaembu Stadium and Sports Complex by RADDAR and Progen in Brazil, the winner in the New and old category.
