Scoot over a little bit, Nashville. A new country music capital has earned a seat at the table.
According to a Paste magazine article from earlier this week, four artists with ties to Fayetteville have made the list of the 30 Best Country, Folk, and Americana Albums released in 2023.
The year-end list includes music released by local artists Bonnie Montgomery (River), Dylan Earl (I Saw the Arkansas), Jude Brothers (render tender / blunder sunder), and Nick Shoulders (All Bad), all of whom released their albums on Fayetteville-based record label, Gar Hole Records.
Paste music editor Matt Michell, who according to their Twitter account, hails from Columbus, Ohio, wrote the sections on all four Fayetteville artists. Mitchell also featured Shoulders in their ‘Best of What’s Next’ column back in September.
“From the perennial triumphs of Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit to Margo Price’s sonic rebirth to a masterpiece from Jess Williamson, we’ve gone through the last 12 months and picked out our favorite outlaw, Western, troubadour, balladeer and everything-in-between records from that span,” read the intro to the post.
The Fayetteville-based artists made the list among a who’s who of talented artists, including Tyler Childers, Zach Bryan, Buck Meek, Jenny Lewis, and others. Slaughter Beach, Dog – who recently announced a solo tour stop in Fayetteville coming up this spring, is also on the list.
